If you're in the market for a new smartphone, you now have three new options offered by Sony.
At the IFA technology trade show in Berlin, Sony unveiled the Xperia T, Xperia V, and Xperia J devices. Here are the details.
The Xperia T is powered by a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, displays on a 4.6-inch HD screen, features a 13-megapixel camera, has NFC (near-field communication) capabilities, and will connect to LTE 4G. The phone will initially operate on Ice Cream Sandwich, but promises a Jelly Bean upgrade in the near future.
Similar to the Xperia T, the Xperia V will use a 1.5 GHz dual core processor and offer a 13-megapixel camera. However, there is a trade-off in screen size, with the Xperia V featuring a 4.3-inch display. LTE 4G capabilities will not be available for this model at launch, but are promised to be packaged with a Jelly Bean OS update. Interestingly, the V is built with water-resistant skin, allowing complete submersion. According to the company, the device reaches international IP55 and IP57 durability protocols.
The Xperia J has the smallest display with a 4-inch screen. Unlike the T and V, the Xperia J will only have a 5 MP camera. The phone's OS has yet to be announced.
In addition to Sony's new smartphone offerings, the company has included their Tablet S series into the Xperia brand. The Xperia Tablet S, which will launch on September 7 will run on Android and allow you to control your home entertainment system using the tablet. Blu-ray players, TVs, and cable boxes are just a few of the devices that the Xperia Tablet S communicates with.
Sony is making a serious push into the smartphone and tablet markets. It remains to be seen if the company's market share will reflect its ambition in the years to come.
