Actor Matthew McConaughey surprised the movie-going public by losing 47 pounds to make his role in the Academy Award nominated movie "Dallas Buyers Club" more believable, in which he plays a man suffering from AIDS, and revealed his weight loss tips in an interview with Piers Morgan.

"Go to Mexico and drink the water" was Matthew McConaughey's answer when he was asked about how he had lost so much weight in such little time. The actor joked and winked, which caused the CNN journalist to laugh.

"I did it under medical supervision, I understand nutrition, and I listened to my body throughout the entire process," he said.

The statements made by the Golden Globe winner and Academy Award nominee were not found funny by the Mexican community, who immediately took to social networks in a wave of negative comments against Matthew McConaughey.

The reputation of the quality of tap water in Mexico is not very good in the United States. This is not the first time American celebrities make references to the diseases they can get if they drink non-bottled water in their visits to Mexico.

The United States' Centers for Disease Control (CDC) also makes recommendations to American citizens planning to travel to Mexico, warning them about consuming water and certain foods, and they suggest getting vaccinated for hepatitis and typhus.

Matthew McConaughey's joking comments are related to the risk of being infected with cholera, a diseases that causes diarrhea and dehydration, which without a doubt cause weight loss.
