Jai Courtney and Boyd Holbrook will compete for the role of Kyle Reese in "Terminator Genesis."

Deadline is reporting that Paramount Pictures and Skydance production are down to two actors for the role. The actor who gets the role will join Arnold Schwarzenegger as the signature cyborg, Emilia Clarke ("Game of Thrones") as Sara Connor and Jason Clarke ("Zero Dark Thirty" "The Great Gatsby") as her son John Connor in the time travel saga that will be directed by "Thor: The Dark World" filmmaker Alan Taylor. There is currently no writer attached to the film.

The news comes after "Terminator Genesis" producers announced that the film would be shot in Louisiana.

Earlier, producer Megan Ellison decided not to act as a producer on the film in favor of making more specialty films. However, the film will be financed by Paramount, and David Ellison's Skydance.

Courtney was recently seen in "Jack Reacher" and "A Good Day to Die Hard." He will next be seen in "Divergent" and recently shot the Angelina Jolie thriller "Unbroken." He will also be seen in the Russell Crowe film "The Water Diviner."

Holbrook recently finished shooting the David Fincher directed "Gone Girl," "A Walk Among Tombstones," and the Gavin O'Connor directed "Jane Got a Gun."

"The Terminator" series began in 1984 with the original film directed by James Cameron and later two more sequels were created. In 2009, Warner Bros. tried to reboot the series with the maligned "Terminator Salvation."

The film will be released July 1, 2015.
