Prolific and acclaimed film director Woody Allen is once more in the eye of the hurricane, after his adoptive daughter, Dylan Farrow, published an open letter on The New York Times' website in which she writes about how Woody Allen sexually abused her.
Dylan Farrow's accusation comes less than a month away from Academy Awards ceremony, in which the 78-year-old director is competing for Best Original Script for his latest movie "Blue Jasmine", starring Cate Blanchett.
The case is from 1992, when a legal dispute between Woody Allen and Mia Farrow for the custody of the minor revealed the filmmaker's sexual abuses against his adoptive daughter, according to Reuters.
According to the same source, the 12-year marriage between Farrow and Allen dissolved after it was revealed that the director was having a relationship with Mia Farrow's adoptive daughter, Soon-Yi, who was 22 then.
After separating, the actress publicly accused the director of abusing her daughter Dylan, accusations the director always denied.
"What's your favorite Woody Allen movie? Before you answer, you should know: when I was seven years old, Woody Allen took me by the hand and led me into a dim, closet-like attic on the second floor of our house. He told me to lay on my stomach and play with my brother's electric train set. Then he sexually assaulted me," Dylan, now 28, wrote in the letter published on Saturday on the blog of columnist Nicholas Kristof.
This is the first time Dylan Farrow personally talks about the events she was the victim of.
Woody Allen Denies Accusations
On his part, Allen's representative, Leslee Dart, said on Sunday that the director is denying these accusations and announced that he would soon reply to these statements.
"Mr. Allen has read the article and found it false and embarrassing. He will reply very soon. Meanwhile, it's essential to leave the following facts clear:
At the time, a Court investigation took place by a tribunal of expert investigators.
The experts concluded that there was no credible evidence of abuse; that Dylan Farrow was incapable of distinguishing reality from fantasy and that Dylan Farrow was probably instructed by her mother, Mia Farrow. No charges were made," wrote Dart in a press release published by CNN.
