"Wolverine" star Hugh Jackman is setting aside his claws to join a movie that features a flying kid, a fairy, and some fairy dusts.
The muscle-bound actor was confirmed to be donning a pirate costume for his newest role in the upcoming live-action "Peter Pan" film. Entertainment Weekly reports that Warner Bros. announced that the "X-Men" star has been casted to play the main villain Blackbeard in the upcoming film.
According to a statement made by Sue Kroll, the president of Warner Bros. Worldwide Marketing and International Distribution, "There is a reason that Hugh is known and loved the world over. He is uncompromising in his dedication to every role, and we are all thrilled to be working with him again."
In an article on the Hollywood Reporter, another executive from the film studio, Greg Silverman said, "Hugh Jackman always delivers indelible performances that resonate with audiences. We know he will create a Blackbeard who will be a powerful presence in this original Peter Pan adventure."
Those who are familiar with the original story of Peter Pan know that the archrival of the wonder boy is Captain Hook. But in the latest yet-to-be-titled film adaptation, which will be an origin story, the iconic pirate captain will be teaming up with the boy who never grows old in the fight against Jackman's Blackbeard. In a previous article on THR, it was revealed that before climbing to the rank of Captain, Hook started out as a crew member in Blackbeard's ship. MTV News also reported that the film will show story of the titular character before he was orphaned and moved to Neverland.
Although there have been no announcements yet as to who will play Pan, Garret Hedlund of "Tron: Legacy" has been confirmed to play the role of the young Hook.
The upcoming "Pan" film is set to hit theaters on July 17, 2015. It will be directed by Joe Wright and will be produced by Greg Berlanti of the "Green Lantern" and Paul Webster of "Atonement".
