Garrett Hedlund has been tapped to play Captain Hook.
According to Variety, the actor will play the role in Joe Wright's Peter Pan origin tale "Pan."
Hedlund is the second actor in negotiations for the film. Hugh Jackman is already in negotiations to play the main villain, Blackbeard.
Other sources say an open casting call will be held to fill the role of Pan, as the character is between 10 and 12 years old. Meanwhile, Jason Fuchs wrote the script with Greg Berlanti producing.
"Pan" will be set in World War II and follows an orphan named Peter who is kidnapped by pirates and brought to Neverland, where he discovers he's destined to save the land from the pirate Blackbeard. The new version will also see Hook as Pan's friend.
Hedlund was recently seen in "Inside Llewyn Davis" and had his breakout role in "On the Road." He has also been seen in "Tron: Legacy," "Four Brothers," and "Troy." He will next be seen in "Lullaby" with Amy Adams and Terrence Howard; he will also star in Angelina Jolie's second feature "Unbroken."
Wright has directed the Academy Award nominee "Atonement" as well as "Pride and Prejudice" and "Anna Karenina." The latter three films have all starred Keira Knightley. He has also directed "The Soloist" starring Jaime Foxx and "Hanna" starring Saoirse Ronan.
Warner Bros. hopes the new "Pan" film can appeal to the "Harry Potter" and "Lord of the Rings" fanbase and start a new franchise. The film is set for release on July 17, 2015.
