Brian Van Holt landed the "jackpot" when he was cast opposite Friends star Courteney Cox in TV sitcom 'Cougar Town.' It didn't matter if he played a total cuss-worthy Bobby Cobb, ex-husband of lead character Jules Cobb who loves his beer more than he should and has a freeloading habit.

After four seasons, the actor managed to improve his luck and land a directing gig in an episode of the very show he's appearing in, Entertainment Weekly said. As such, Tuesday's 'Cougar Town' episode marked his directorial debut, which was one of the goals he's had since he began working on the series.

However, he was thrown a bit of a curveball in his first attempt at directing - the episode in question had Courteney's former Friends co-star Matthew Perry as guest.

"There was a lot involved and a lot of expectations, but that being said, it was amazing. I loved it," he told EW. "I was so lucky to have Matthew in my episode because he made me look better. He brought so much to the table. It was really an honor to direct Matthew Perry and Courteney," the rookie director revealed.

He also confessed that he was a fan of the hit series himself and found it "surreal" to see "Monica and Chandler at it again."

"The chemistry was just there. They didn't have to work it out. You really just had to put the camera on them and let it go," Van Hold told TV Guide.

However, he clarified that Matthew's role in the episode is "not Chandler at all," although he is just as witty and vulnerable.

"We shot a lot for this episode, but there might be an homage to Friends," he revealed.

Yahoo! TV also reported that Van Holt mentioned putting in 'Friends' references "here or there" in the said episode.

"It depends on whether or not they get cut out. I haven't seen the final cut, but there's a potential "Friends" reference that's pretty funny. Depending on whether or not we have enough time to keep it in there, I hope so. It's not subtle. It's overt! Watching the two of them work together again is pretty special. They're so good together," the actor-director explained.

Sounds like good news, don't you think, 'Friends' fans? Don't miss the next 'Cougar Town' episode Tuesdays, readers!
