Although nowadays many people might think that the world has achieved significant advances in the fight for gender equality, what's true is that women still face enormous challenges in their daily lives in their search for equal treatment and opportunities as men.

This is why Beyoncé Knowles Carter decided to write an essay for The Shriver Report (a website run by journalist and former first lady of California, María Shriver) in which she asks people not to buy into the "myth" of gender equality.

Under this premise, the 32-year-old singer makes her position regarding the situation of women in the 21st century very clear. "We have to stop buying into the myth of gender equality. It's not real yet." writes Beyoncé in her essay, titled "Gender Equality Is A Myth!", included in the special 2014 report "Woman's Nation Pushes Back From The Brink", by The Shriver Report.

"Today, women comprise half of American workers, but the average woman only wins 77% of what an average man does. But unless women and men both acknowledge this is unacceptable, things won't change," Beyoncé denounces in her essay, quoted by BBC.

Celebrities Unite for Gender Equality

The popular singer was not the only celebrity included in The Shriver Report, which has the purpose of documenting the trends of society which might affect women around the world. Actress and businesswoman Eva Longoria also collaborated with the report with an essay titled "Empowering Latinas", a test that cover the necessity of offering the same education opportunities to Latino women, according to CNN.

Other celebrities participating in the report were actress Jennifer Garner with her essay "Turning Poverty Around: Training Parents to Help Their Kids"; and Jada Pinkett-Smith with "Human Trafficking and Slavery in the United States: 'You Don't See the Chains'.
