Marvel seems to be bagging up the A-list celebrities for their cinematic universe, as it has just expressed its interest in recruiting Johnny Depp to join its league of superheroes. As reported in Latino Review, Depp has met with Marvel executives to discuss the role of Doctor Strange.

For those of you who don't know who Dr. Strange is, he is a neurosurgeon trained to be a Master of the Mystic Arts and became a protector of Earth.

Is it just me, or does the term "mystic" go very well with the word "eccentric", a word that's most commonly associated with Depp's characters such as the Madhatter, Willy Wonka, and Edward Scissorhands.

But anyway, the idea of Depp playing the doctor-turned-superhero does not seem very far-fetched because after all, Disney, the owner of Marvel Studios, has a very beautiful relationship with the 50-year-old actor. Just take a look at how Depp immortalized the character of Captain Jack Sparrow in the hearts of movie fans everywhere in Disney's 'Pirates of the Caribbean' franchise.

However, an article posted on Variety claimed that final and formal negotiations between Depp and Marvel have not yet taken place. If the actor does agree to take on the superhero role, he would have to work around his schedule since an 'Alice in Wonderland' sequel and a fifth 'Pirates of the Caribbean' are underway.

As to when the masses could expect to see the Doctor on the big screen, Marvel claims it has not yet settled on a final date but is targeting 2016 for the year of the "Strange". If all goes well, people might get to see a glimpse of 'Dr. Strange' in the post-credit scenes in any of Marvel's upcoming movies for 2015.

Regarding Dr. Strange's possible film plot, screenwriters Thomas Dean Donnely and Joshua Oppenheimer conceptualized an origin story for the character that closely followed his comic book narrative. Details of the storyline were revealed on a video (watch here) posted on Latino Review.
