Iker Casillas' new son Martin Casillas is officially a member of Madrid, quelling impending transfer rumors.
Casillas unveiled an image on Instagram of the his baby boy that looks like an ID card for the team that even features what seems to be his registration number.
Martin, who is also the son of Casillas' long-time girlfriend Sara Carbonero, is the best news that the legendary keeper has had after a tumultuous 2013. Throughout the last year, Casillas lost his starting job with Real Madrid permanently to Diego Lopez and is also in line to lose his spot as the leader for Spain in the upcoming World Cup.
There has been a great deal of speculation over whether Casillas would look to move to a different club in order to avoid losing the World Cup spot. However, the birth of the child seems to have altered Casillas' priorities. Many wondered whether he would remain in Madrid to provide his son with stability. Even though he is no longer the top keeper with the team, Madrid's management staff has been vocal about keeping him around to provide a strong presence and support for the club.
The decision to post his son's Real Madrid club online is probably the best news Madrid could ever receive as it is unlikely that Casillas would post such an image if he had intentions of leaving.
Casillas was reportedly drawing interest from such teams as Manchester City and Arsenal, but Manchester City seems set on Victor Valdes, Casillas' biggest rival for the starting position with Spain.
What does this mean for Casillas? Lilkely that he is willing to fight for his spot with Madrid and Spain. He seems to care more for his son's well being at this point rather than his own position with his club and country. Good for him.
