A24 has announced the release of three of the most anticipated movies of the year.
The first release of the year will be Denis Villaneuve and Jake Gyllenhaal's first collaboration entitled "Enemy." The film premiered at the Toronto Film Festival alongside their second collaboration, the critically-acclaimed "Prisoners." "Enemy," however, was shot first and due to its experimental nature proved to be a hard sell in the market. The film tells the story of a man who seeks out his exact look-alike after spotting him in a movie. The film scored rave reviews and opens on March 14.
On April 4 the company will release the controversial "Under the Skin" starring Scarlet Johansson and directed by Jonathan Glazer. The film premiered at the Toronto, Telluride, and Venice Film Festivals this past fall and proved to be one of the most divisive movies of the Festival season. The film tells the story of an alien who preys on hitchhikers. "Under the Skin" currently has an 88 percent aggregate score on Rotten Tomatoes.
The third release is "Locke" by Steven Knight. The movie, starring Tom Hardy, tells the story of a man whose life unravels during a 90-minute race against time. The film premiered at the Venice Film festival and quickly acquired a distributor at the Toronto Market. Having already opened in Great Britain, the movie has already garnered accolades for Tom Hardy and Steve Knight and is by far one of the most anticipated movies of the year. A24 will unveil the film on April 25.
A24 is coming off their first year as a distributor. The company released five movies this year and scored a huge success with the controversial "Spring Breakers." They also released "The Spectacular Now" and "The Bling Ring."
