Tropical Storm Isaac will make landfall in Haiti on Friday close to midnight with sustained winds reaching 65 mph, a significant increase to the 60 mph recorded on Friday noon.
According to the National Hurricane Center, Isaac is moving northwest at 10 mph and meteorologists expect that on Saturday afternoon its winds will fall to 60 mph before going up again to 65 mph by Sunday afternoon.
Hurricane Status 'Category 1' on Monday over Florida
The center predicts that Isaac will have reached hurricane status - category 1 - by Monday morning during which it will have reached the southern tip of Florida's peninsula and the Keys.
Miami Forecasts
People living in Miami will have already started noticing significant changes in its weather pattern by early Sunday morning, and according to predictions by Sunday afternoon (approx. 2 p.m.) it will already have experienced winds between 65 and 70 mph.
Tampa Forecasts
Tampa on the other hand should start noticing significant changes in its weather by Sunday afternoon and by Monday 2 a.m. it should already be seeing winds reach speeds between 70 and 75 mph.
Isaac thus will reach Hurricane status between late Sunday or early Monday morning to Monday afternoon as it makes its brushes through west of Tampa.
Hurricane Reaches 85 mph Winds by Tuesday
Meteorologists predict that by Tuesday afternoon, Hurricane Isaac will have reached 85 mph.
Hurricanes reach category two status when reaching sustained winds of up to 96 miles per hour.
