Bradley Cooper recently spoke about his upcoming role as Rocket Raccoon in the upcoming "Guardians of the Galaxy."

The Academy Award nominee will voice the character in the upcoming Marvel adaptation and has expressed excitement for the role.

"It's been great. The great thing about [director James Gunn] is that I tried to set the ground rules early. I said, 'Look, you don't have to sugar-coat anything. Just tell me exactly what you want,'" Cooper told MTV. "I think he was basically going like, 'Did you think I would do anything else?'"

Regarding his character, Cooper invoked an iconic personality from Martin Scorcese's "Goodfellas."

"I think Rocket is dynamic," Cooper added. "He's the sort of Joe Pesci in 'Goodfellas' guy. You need Henry Hill."

The movie also stars Karen Gillan as Nebula, Vin Diesel as Groot, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Chris Pratt as Peter Quill, Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser, Benicio del Toro as The Collector, Michael Rooker as Yondu, John C. Reilly as Rhomann Dey, Djimon Hounsou as Korath the Pursuer, Glenn Close as Nova Prime, and Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer. The film is slated for an Aug. 1, 2014 release date and is based on a screenplay by Gunn. The film's music will be written by Tyler Bates who is known for his work on "The Darkest Hour" and "Sucker Punch." Ben Davis ("Avengers: Age of Ultron") will serve as the director of photography while Fred Raskin and Hughes Winborne will edit.
