If you're waiting to see what the next Amazon Kindle Fire looks like before you decide on a tablet to buy, you might not have to wait much longer. Amazon sent out invitations to the press to an Amazon event on September 6 in Santa Monica, Calif.

"Please join us for an Amazon Press Conference," read the invite.

There may be heavy emphasis on content such as video, books, and audio since the event is taking place close to Hollywood. Previous Kindle events have usually been held in New York.

The timing of the event also supports the running theory that the next-gen Kindle series will have an October or  November release date.

Apple is expected to reveal an iPad Mini at an event on September 12. Amazon's event will be six days earlier, probably in hopes of trying to gather some attention onto its product before all eyes become fixated on Apple's new products. Korean company Samsung's decision to unveil the Galaxy Note 2 at an event on August 29 in Berlin could be a similar strategy.

Amazon will most likely bolster the Kindle Fire lineup with this new launch. Earlier this summer, a Staples executive made comments that indicated Amazon was working on multiple tablets, as many as five or six.

NPD DisplaySearch analyst Peter Shim predicts that Amazon will offer a variety of versions of the Kindle Fire 2. He thinks that Amazon will release 7-and-10-inch versions of the tablet, and offer them with or without cameras, more memory, and even with 4G support.

FCC filings by Amazon indicate that the company is gearing up to release a new series of Kindle products.

Website The Digital Reader dug up some FCC filings that were traced back to front company for Amazon. These filings showed a 10-inch device as well as another tablet that could be a next-gen Kindle.
