The venue: Staples Center, L.A. The date: December 6, 2013. The occasion: KIIS FM Jingle Ball. The stunt: Definitely far from THAT infamous MTV Video Music Awards 2013 twerking incident, according to the Daily Mail.
Twerkaholic artist Miley Cyrus and "Blurred Lines" singer Robin Thicke crossed paths once again but this time backstage at the downtown Los Angeles event and with a good measure of awkwardness, a far cry from their notorious MTV VMA performance 2 months ago where the former Disney star twerked unabashedly against the married RnB crooner's groin in a suggestive position and with tongue hanging out.
Friday night found the two artists appearing to chat and laugh about amiably behind the scenes at the L.A.-based radio station's Christmas-themed event, although photos betray their discomfort in each other's company. Was it because Thicke's actress wife Paula Patton was around?
The 36-year-old singer was seen talking to the Hannah Montana actress with his hands at his back, tucked into his all-black outfit. The blonde wild child was also seen doing the same gesture, resting her hands on the edge of her long, black Calvin Klein skirt while chatting to her former scandal-making partner-in-crime. It is worth noting that Miley was uncharacteristically tastefully covered up during the occasion. Well, at least when she's not on stage.
Not one to pass up an opportunity to make a controversial scene, the "We Can't Stop" singer did her signature moves wearing a scarlet red sequined crop top and high-waisted pants during her performance at the Jingle Ball. But this time she twerked against a "very bad Santa," who was one of her dancers dressed as Santa Claus, E! Online reported. The costumed dancer was no less wholesome himself as he was seen carrying a bottle of liquor and appeared to take a couple of swigs from it during the performance. His round red sunglasses also belied his funky take on the beloved holiday character.
In a previous interview, Thicke commented that his raunchy performance with Miley at this year's VMAs made him more popular.
"Everybody knows who I am now because I let Miley Cyrus twerk in front of me on the MTV awards," he shared. "I spent my whole career playing it safe, being a gentleman, never doing anything controversial," the father-of-one concluded, noted the Daily Mail.
Judging from the awkward encounter with the infamous twerker, it appears his next stunt may not involve the 21-year-old Bangerz artist anytime soon.
