The Los Angeles Film Critics have named the "Gravity" and "Her" the Best Films of the year.
The tie was one of three for the critics circle. Another tie included Cate Blanchett ("Blue Jasmine") and Adele Exarchopoulos ("Blue is the Warmest Color") for the Best Actress award. James Franco also tied for the Best Supporting Actor Award for his role in "Spring Breakers"; Jared Leto also won for "Dallas Buyers Club." Leto is slowly becoming the front-runner for the Academy Award as he has already received a number of accolades.
Bruce Dern was named the Best Actor of the Year for his role in "Nebraska" while Lupita Nyong'o won the award for Best Supporting Actress for "12 Years a Slave."
"Gravity" also won awards for Best Director for Alfonso Cuaron. The film also won the Best Cinematography award for Emanuel Lubeski and the Best Editing accolade for director Cuaron and Mike Sanger.
The Coen brothers film "Inside Llewyn Davis" won the Best Score award for T-Bone Burnett while Richard Linklater, Julie Delpy, and Ethan Hawke won the award for "Before Midnight."
The critics, known for their obscure choices, named "Celestine and Ernest" the Best Animated film of the year.
Sarah Polley's "Stories We Tell" took home the Best Documentary award beating the critical favorite "The Act of Killing.
The LA film critics have always swayed away from consensus films and are known for ties. Films that have won the award include "Amour," "The Descendants," "The Social Network," "The Hurt Locker," and "Wall-E."
