American actress Gillian Anderson, famous for her role as Dana Scully on "The X Files," surprised everyone with a racy photo of herself to help raise awareness for the effects of indiscriminate fishing on the environment.

Anderson, 45, who recently starred in TV shows like "The Fall" and "Hannibal", decided to pose naked with an eel to support Fishlove, a campaign that seeks to raise awareness for unsustainable fishing practices that destroy the Earth's marine ecosystems.

The famous actress posed sensually with an eel covering her breasts, in a campaign that has been supported by various British celebrities, including actress Olivia Williams and rapper Goldie.

The non-profit organization Fishlove was founded by Moshimo, a Japanese restaurant located in Bringhton, England and actress Greta Scacchi in 2009 in an attempt to alert the population to the collapse of various marine species due to indiscriminate fishing, a problem largely caused by French fishermen.

"Amazing animals living in the ocean are being systematically destroyed by massive fishing nets that capture or destroy everything in their path. In a few days, the European Parliament could vote a project to protect one of the most precious dwellers of the deep ocean and we need to promote their obligation to do so," Fishlove wrote on its website.

The photo was uploaded by Anderson herself to her Twitter account along with a link to the petition to stop the destruction of marine ecosystems by the fishing industries.
