Latin superstar Shakira and FC Barcelona defender Gerard Pique have yet to confirm they are expecting their first child. Rumors have circulated that the Colombian singer has been pregnant since June when Mexican entertainment gossip site TV Notas broke the news.
According to Colombian magazine Gente, the star's pregnancy was confirmed and the couple has taken to calling their baby "Ulicito" prompting rumors that they are expecting a boy.
Reports were further fueled when Shakira's father, William Mebarak allegedly told Honduran daily, La Prensa, "Hopefully the news will be made official soon." Mebarak later retracted his comments and said he never confirmed his daughter's pregnancy.
Earlier this month, HuffPost Voces reported that the singer was keeping her pregnancy under wraps due to an illness called toxoplasmosis, a parasitic disease that can prove extremely harmful to developing fetuses.
According to Gente, Shakira is expected to give birth in January 2013 through cesarean section.
The couple met during the filming of her music video for the South Africa World Cup "Waka Waka" (This Time for Africa) in 2010. Pique, a player for the Spanish National Team, went on to win the World Cup that same year. He and his team recently won the 2012 Euro Cup Championship. In March 29, 2011, the singer confirmed their relationship through Twitter and Facebook following months of speculation.
