Nineteen-year-old Olympic diver Tom Daley recently admitted that he is in a relationship...with a man. The announcement was met with positive messages in social media. Kylie Minogue, Russell Brand, and David Walliams are among the celebrities who for the British Medalist.

According to Daley, in his five-minute YouTube video announcement (seen below), he is in a serious relationship with a man, and he couldn't be happier. Daley also said, "Of course I still fancy girls but, I mean, right now I'm dating a guy and I couldn't be happier. It feels safe and it really does feel right."

He decided to go public with his sexuality in lieu of a national newspaper misquoting him and reportedly denied his homosexuality, two months ago, the Telegraph UK noted.

Daley said, "In an ideal world I wouldn't be doing this video, because it shouldn't matter...But recently I was misquoted in an interview and it made me feel really angry and frustrated - emotions that I've never felt before when reading something about myself."

Daley's mom has been supportive of him, but there was mixed opinions from other friends and family, especially when he told them that he was going to make the announcement. His grandparents, for instance, admitted to being confused about their grandson's announcement, but vowed to support him anyway, noted the Daily Mail.

Daley said that lots of them [family and friends] did not believe it, and that they wanted for him to keep quiet in order to avoid getting his words twisted. However, he chose to continue with his post as he wanted to put an end to rumors and speculation.

According to BBC Sport's Matt Slater, "we live in a world where it is dangerous to be gay in many countries, where the next hosts of the Winter Olympics have brought in a law banning 'homosexual propaganda' and where many gay athletes choose to stay silent rather than risk telling the truth."
