Singer Gloria Estefan and her husband, Emilio Estefan, offered a Thanksgiving dinner in their restaurant Bongos Cuban for hundreds of homeless people.
According to news agency EFE, the couple offered this dinner for homeless people in their Miami restaurant. The traditional feast at the Estefan's restaurant to the sound of Latin music had various dishes such as the traditional Thanksgiving turkey, and Cuban dishes like fried bananas and roasted pork.
According to EFE, almost a thousand people attended the feast, which was filled with solidarity, lively music and Latino flavors.
"It's a privilege. It makes me very happy because we know we're sharing with families that don't have the means to throw a party and have a nice day", Gloria explained when she inaugurated this year's feast.
As it happens every year, local TV celebrities and many volunteers helped by serving the food and helping with logistics.
The importance of the Estefan's annual feast is such that this year the Mayor of the Miami joined the celebration and told EFE that despite the city having numerous homeless people, the city's solidarity makes him feel proud.
"In the tour we made to different shelters we saw almost as many volunteers as homeless people. That so many choose to spend Thanksgiving Day like this is very important", the Mayor said.
Gloria and Emilio Estefan have shared the hash experience of being immigrants in the United States when they were just children, which became one of the reasons for them to help those who need it most.
"We've both been immigrant children, we went through what they're going through. When we were children we didn't have a family and nothing to eat. The best thing is to be thankful again because, sometimes, people forget," shared Emilio.
