Carmen Carrera, a Peruvian transgender model had caught the attention of social networks recently, after her followers petitioned the prestigious lingerie firm to consider her for their next annual show.

According to CNN, the model's followers and the general public have joined the petition through the change.org platform, with which they hope to achieve, along with reaching Carrera's dream, a change in mentality that will help fight intolerance.

Although so far Victoria's Secret has not said anything about this, the public petition has reached 35,000 signatures and is expected to get more in the next hours.

If the petition is accepted, the model would not only become the first transgender "angel" to walk down a Victoria's Secret runway, but also the first Latin American model to do so, since Carmen is Peruvian and Puerto Rican.

The model thanked her followers through a message posted to Facebook, regarding the opportunity for a transgender person to walk down a Victoria's Secret runway.

"What do I think about those opposed to the idea of the first transgender VS angel? ... hmm ... They said there would never be a black president ... They said gay people would never marry ... It's almost 2014, it's a new day", the model wrote.

According to the model's official website, since she began her transition, Carmen has been a great activist in favor of trans-equality, and has promoted beauty in all of its forms through her work, and so she's considered an inspiration not only to trans people, "but for all those who have been told that they can't succeed based on who they are or where they come from".

Carmen Carrera has worked for Orbitz, W Magazine, and has walked down runways in New York City and Los Angeles.
