Michael Boyce of Orlando, Fla. was arrested for allegedly killing his wife and one of his unborn twin children.
Michael Boyce, 33, told investigators that his wife, Alexis Boyce, 23, shot herself in their apartment, but his story changed once police found evidence that conflicted with his story, the Orlando Sentinel reports. He eventually confessed to deputies that he accidentally shot her in the head, said Sgt. Mike Ruggiero late Thursday.
She was rushed to the Orlando Regional Medical Center, but was pronounced dead on arrival, along with one of her unborn sons, The Daily Mail reports.
Michael and Alexis Boyce had been married for around a year, and she was eight months pregnant with twins. The surviving infant is in critical condition in the neonatal intensive care unit at Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies.
The couple lived in an apartment building on the 4500 block of Nikki Court off Pershing Avenue in Orlando. They shared the apartment with Alexis Boyce's parents, deputies said.
Investigators said that the victim's parents were in the apartment at the time of the shooting. Although they heard gunfire, they did not see Michael shoot his wife. Alexis Boyce's father called 911 at around 5:20 p.m.
Michael Boyce did not speak to reporters when police escorted him into the Orange County Jail on Friday morning. Boyce faces first-degree murder charges.
He is expected to make his first appearance in court on Friday.
