When the Apple iPhone 5 allegedly launches on September 21st, expect an entry fee comparable to the iPhone 4's $649 base model.

At the beginning of the animated film Peter Pan, the narrator says, "all of this has happened before and all this will happen again."

Wiser words have never been spoken, and in the case of the iPhone 5, it is likely that pricing trends will follow a cyclical route and keep in line with Apple's past behavior.

The original iPhone offered an entry-fee of $499 for the 4 GB model, while demanding $599 for the 8 GB version.

Both the Apple iPhone 3G and 3GS offered a $199 8GB model with a mandatory contract, and a $299 16 GB model.

Similarly, the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S share the same price for their 16 GB base model, at $649, and their 32 GB models, at $749.

While there has been no official announcement for the US price of the iPhone 5, pricedecko values the Indian release of the phone at Rs. 45,000 which converts to $810.83 in USD.

The iPhone 5 will have to contend with the Samsung Galaxy S III, the current leader in the smartphone market. The 16 GB SIII is widely offered for $199.99 by most carriers, with a contract included.

Expect a price comparable to the iPhone 4S for the iPhone 5's cheapest model.

Apple recently set a record for the most valuable property of all time, rounding out at $624 billion.

It remains to be seen how many more records Apple breaks with the release of the iPhone 5 this September.
