The patent trial of the century is back in the news. Apple Inc. is seeking to recoup more money from their lawsuit against Samsung Electronics Co. from August 2012.
According to Bloomberg Business, Apple is seeking to gain more than $411 million in damages that it won last year.
The damages awarded to Apple, however, are down from the $1.05 billion originally awarded to the company. U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh reduced the $1.05 billion verdict, which was decided by a jury.

Apple is seeking a retrial for how much Samsung should pay the Cupertino company over alleged patent infringements. Jury selection for the retrial started on Nov. 12.
Judge Koh has the task to instruct jurors that the previous jury's guilty verdict against Samsung infringing Apple's patent still stands. The new jury's task is to determine the amount of money Samsung owes Apple based on 13 Samsung products.
According to reports, Apple is seeking to diminish Samsung's growing presence in the smartphone market, particularly its Galaxy brand.
Apple and Samsung have declined to comment on the retrial.
The retrial comes as President Barack Obama fulfilled a ban on several Samsung devices from being sold in the U.S.
As Latinos Post reported in October, older Samsung devices, ranging from smartphones and tablets, cannot be imported into the U.S. after the International Trade Commission (ITC) ruled Samsung infringed on Apple's patents. The ban on the older Samsung devices ends a dispute when Apple first complained in mid-2011. The complaint stated Samsung infringed Apple's touchscreen technology and headphone detection.
The ban does not affect Samsung's latest gadgets such as the Samsung Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 2, to name a few.
