Toy company Mattel, creators of iconic doll Barbie, decided to create a model inspired by singer Jennifer López, one of the most internationally renowned Latinas for her work in music and film.
"The Diva of Bronx" has been immortalized in two Barbie models: "Jennifer López World Tour Doll" and "Jennifer López Red Carpet Doll", which are dressed in exact replicas of dresses the popular Boricua has worn in the past, as well as her famous hair-dos.
Mattel revealed the outfits of both dolls through the @Barbie Twitter account, where it also shared pictures of the dolls which are wearing detailed replicas of the dress the singer used during the 2012 Academy Awards ("Red Carpet Doll") and the outfit she used in her recent tour "Dance Again", both created by Lebanese designer Zuahir Murad.
It seems like the 44-year-old singer is more than happy with the results, which will be enjoyed not only by young Latinas, but by fans of the singer as well.
"I think it's important to have a Latina Barbie, but a real Latina Barbie", López said in Univisión's "Primer Impacto" show, quoted by People en Español.
On his part, the director of design of Barbie's Collectors, Robert Best, in charge of sculpting both versions of the JLo Barbie, recently told ET Online that the actress and singer is an inspiration and a role model for girls.
"I think she got to where she is with hard work, dedication and perseverance. She's really an incredible model for girls and for anyone, honestly," said Best.
"I think Barbie represents infinite possibilities - that dreams are still alive, and that you never abandon that child, or at least you shouldn't," López said in a press releas.
