Gran Turismo 6 seeks to become the top racing simulator of the year when it is released exclusively on the PlayStation 3 on Dec. 6, and now the complete list of cars for the game has been released to IGN. Of the roughly 1,200 vehicles that will be part of the Gran Turismo 6 roster, some stand out more than others, including some that are literally out-of-this-world.
Scanning the complete list of cars, trucks, and other vehicles that are a part of the game is quite the task, but one vehicle clearly stands out among the concept cars and other high-end models. Dubbed the "Lunar Roving Vehicle LEV-001 '71," it looks as though this car is based around the design of the vehicle astronauts used to get around the surface of the Moon in 1971.
This will be a nice little easter egg for those looking for something unique and fun to drive around the different tracks of the game, but the vehicle will most likely is unable to win very many races. Gran Turismo is known for its huge attention to detail, so if the game recreates the lunar vehicle at its reported specs then it will be able to race around the track at a blistering 11.2 mph. While visually the vehicle might be impressive, players may want to try a different car when it is time to start the race.
As for the rest of the cars and trucks in the game, many of the 1,200 vehicles are returning options found in Gran Turismo 4 or 5. However, about 100 new cars will be included in the game besides the lunar rover. This means that players can spend hours upon hours playing the game and never have to use the same car twice, which should definitely appeal to those who wish they could actually pilot some of the vehicles found within the game.
While there are new vehicles added to the game, some older tracks found in previous Gran Turismo games have been cut from the sixth entry in the series. Most notably, the test track from the original U.K. version of Top Gear is not part of the game. However, this is offset somewhat by the inclusion of the Ascari Race Resort circuit, a private track located in Spain that is known for its various corners based on famous racing tracks from around the world.
