Android 4.4 KitKat was finally announced Oct. 31, raising the same question in many Android enthusiasts' minds: when will it arrive on my device? Those who foresaw this inevitable day and prepared by picking up a Google Play edition of the Samsung Galaxy S4 instead of the normal edition will be pleased to know the update should land during the month of November.

Google revealed Android 4.4 KitKat with all its new features Thursday and stated that the operating system can currently only be found on the Nexus 5 smartphone that was announced alongside KitKat.

Other Google-tied devices, such as the Nexus phones and tablets and Google Play editions will soon receive the update in November.

"Android 4.4, KitKat, which comes on Nexus 5, will also soon be available on Nexus 4, 7, 10, the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One Google Play edition devices in the coming weeks," Google writes on the official Android blog.

While "coming weeks" is pretty vague, it's safe to say that Android 4.4 KitKat will be a major selling point for many this fall holiday shopping season in the United States. More likely than not, the update will start rolling in the month of November. After all, the HTC One Google Play edition Android 4.4 KitKat update seems to be just around the corner.

The Google Play edition of the Samsung Galaxy S4 runs stock Android, meaning it can receive updates straight from Google without having to wait for Samsung (and potentially carriers) to layer more software on top, a process that can add weeks and even months to a device's update cycle.
