Is Marvel working on a new Mandarin movie?
According to numerous reports, the company could be working on bringing back the character in a "revenge" film. The Mandarin made an appearance in "Iron Man 3" and was the main antagonist in the film. However, the treatment of the character by director Shane Black and Marvel Studios was heavily criticized and created tremendous fan backlash.
Spoilers: In the film, it is revealed that the character is nothing more than an actor doing a terrorist campaign for Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce). Many fans expected the character to showcase his special powers, but this never came about and he was instead a subverted portrayal.
Now Latino Review is reporting that Marvel "wants to make it up to fans so in the one shot, the REAL Mandarin is furious with Aldrich Killian and Ben Kingsley's character Trevor Slattery for the mockery they made of the real Mandarin's identity and legacy. The real Mandarin wants to set the record straight."
"How is he going to set the record straight? That I don't know. Who is going to play the real Mandarin? Don't know either. Wait and see," adds the report.
Ben Kingsley, who played "The Mandarin" in "Iron Man 3," recently revealed that he was working on a "secret Marvel project." Latino Review claims that this film is that movie.
"It's a secret Marvel project. I'm not allowed to say any more, you're going to have to wait and see... I was with many members of the crew that were involved in Iron Man 3. It was lovely to see them again," said Kingsley to the Belfast Telegraph. "It was great to be with this wonderful family... I think they have enormous taste as creative artists. There's nothing lazy or gratuitous about their work. They are at the top of their game, and they're great company to keep."
