Although Lady Gaga is known for pushing the envelope with her theatrical performances and eccentric costumes, some viewers say her performance Sunday night on Britain's "The X Factor" went too far.
Gaga's performance has received over 260 complaints from viewers who were less than thrilled to see her frolicking around in flesh-colored underwear and a bra made out of a pair of seashells while she performed her new songs "Venus" and "Do What U Want." [See photo.]
According to Mirror.co.Uk, a spokesperson for the U.K.'s TV watchdog Ofcom revealed that "There was a high volume of complaints relating to performance, costume and lyrics."
Many spectators complained directly to media regulator Ofcom about the explicit nature of the performance, which broadcast before the 9pm, and around 60 other complaints were delivered to ITV.
In response, an ITV spokeswoman defended Gaga's performance saying, "We do not believe Lady Gaga's performance was inappropriate for the family audience of the 'X Factor Results' show, which has an established tradition of featuring performances from the biggest music stars. Lady Gaga is well known for her highly individual performance style," reports E! News.
It remains to be seen whether the regulator will decide to launch a formal investigation of Sunday night's performance by Gaga.
On Saturday, the 27-year-old pop icon managed to take her too risqué acts ever further when she did a surprise set at the London nightclub G-A-Y. The Mama Monster began singing "Venus" dressed as a ghost, however she later decided to spontaneously to strip down to her birthday suit before walking off the stage, reports Fox News.
English comedian Matt Lucas made light of the provocative performance tweeting, "Just saw Lady Gaga do a surprise set at G-A-Y. All agreed it was impressive but we're staying gay."
