On last week's "Nashville," Rayna's voice made a comeback while Scarlett found it difficult to stay true to herself.
In "Don't Open That Door," Scarlett (Clare Bowen) is being trained on what to say to the press, when she really just wants to be her folksy, down-home self. Layla (Aubrey Peeples), a future Harvard student in addition to being a reality show runner-up, is also jealous of Scarlett, and gives her some questionable media advice. Scarlett is ripped off the red carpet by Jeff (Oliver Hudson) when reporters ask her about her Uncle Deacon's (Chip Esten) drinking problems.
Avery (Jonathan Jackson) and Gunnar (Sam Palladio) work on a song together at Gunnar's place, and decide the tune needs female voice. Cue Zoey, who adds the female voice they need to the Everly Brothers-esque song. Once Avery leaves Gunnar's place, Zoey and Gunnar start flirting, which leads to the two having sex on the floor.
Meanwhile, Deacon turns down an offer from Juliette (Hayden Panettiere) to rejoin the tour, and she tells him that Rayna (Connie Britton) may be done signing for good. Upon hearing that, Deacon runs over to Rayna's house to talk to her about the sad turn of events.
Will (Chris Carmack) is invited to join Juliette's tour at the Luke Wheeler benefit concert, which Layla is excited about. Yet, Will is annoyed because he thinks that Layla is messing with Scarlett on purpose.
Rayna takes the stage at the concert to invite Juliette to the Grand Ole Opry, which brings Juliette to tears. Juliette later goes to The Bluebird to tell Avery the good news, as well as apologize about how she treated him.
At the benefit, Luke puts Rayna on the spot and insists that she sing with the band. She is terrified at first that her vocal chords won't be able to rise to the challenge. But as she begins to sing, the audience joins in, giving Rayna the boost she needs to belt out the rest of the song.
After the show, Rayna tells Jeff that she's leaving Edgehill Records. But at that moment, she's told that Lamar (Powers Boothe) has been arrested, and his assets--including those that were going to help Rayna get out of her Edgehill contract--are frozen.
On the next episode, "It Must Be You," "Rayna sets the record straight during an interview with Robin Roberts; Juliette runs into Charlie Wentworth; Scarlett turns to Avery for advice on the changes to her life."
