Noemie Happart will represent Belgium at this year's 2013 Miss Universe Beauty Pageant in Russia.
The 19-year-old from Liege currently studies medicine and psychology at the University of Liège. Before her road to Miss Universe, Happart learned English, Dutch and French. She also enjoys fitness, philanthropy and dance (jazz, hip-hop and salsa). She began dancing at 5 years old and later helped form the cheerleader team for the Liège first division basketball team. Happart has also volunteered for the Red Cross, Televie and Hope for Children and helped raise money to build a school in Cambodia, which now serves nearly 200 students.
She also served as a host on the Belgian television show, "Au Coeur d'Hollywood." After the contest Happart aspires to become a television host or an actress.
Her road to Miss Universe began when she won Miss Belgium 2013 at the grand finale as a representative from Liege. The pageant was held at the Casino Van Knokkein in Knokke-Heist on Jan. 6.
Belgium has never won a Miss Universe pageant. The closest the country has come is fourth runner-up in 1981 with Dominque Van Eeckhoudt. However, Belgium did win Miss Congeniality in 1952, Miss Photogenic in 1972, and Most Beautiful Hair in 1994. Belgium has participated every single year since 1996. The country first participated in 1952.
The Miss Universe beauty pageant will be held at Crocus City Hall in Moscow Russia on Nov. 9, 2013. The current title holder is Olivia Culpo, who will place the crown on the head of her successor.
