A baseball fan died on Thursday after suffering a heart attack in a game between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Chicago White Sox.

According to AP, the cardiac arrest occurred during the game's 7th inning and an attempt to resuscitate him through CPR failed.

In the end, the man was taken to the hospital by ambulance where he was later pronounced dead.

At the time of the incident, the game was halted as several paramedics were seen scrambling to the spot where the man was located and began pumping his chest.

The first to notice on the field was Chicago's Kevin Youkilis who was stationed on third base and quickly informed the umpire.

"I saw some medics jump out around the dugout and run over. Then I saw a doctor or whoever was going, just pushing on the chest over and over and over. I thought maybe they were reviving him and then the next thing you know, they kept going and going. I was like 'God, man. We've got to stop this (game),' and luckily we did," Youkilis said according to AP.

After the game, Blue Jays manager, John Farrell made public his statement:

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the person who was taken out of here tonight."

Hundred thousands of people die of heart disease each year in the U.S which is the leading cause of deaths in the nation. In 2009 alone, almost 600,000 people died due to heart disease.

Some of the leading causes of heart attacks include high cholesterol (consuming too much fat), smoking, stress, high blood pressure, diabetes according to WebMd.com.

The incident was the second time in less than two months that a fan had to receive CPR during a game. The previous incident occurred in June 29.

The name of the victim has not yet been announced.
