Stephen Lang will reprise his role in the upcoming "Avatar" installments.
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting the actor will play the same role in the next three films in the series. Lang played Colonel Quaritch in 2009 blockbuster. The character seemed to have died in the film, but according to the Hollywood Reporter, "Cameron has a plan to bring him back for all the sequels."
This summer, Fox announced that director James Cameron was hiring writers to pen the scripts for the sequels, which will be filmed simultaneously. Josh Friedman ("Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles"), Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver ("Rise of the Plane of the Apes") and Shane Salerno ("Savages") are collaborating with Cameron on the screenplays for the three films.
The original "Avatar" became the most successful film of all time and helped launch the most recent 3-D trend in filmmaking. The film made $760 million domestically and $2.7 billion worldwide. It was also nominated for nine Academy Awards, taking home three.
Lang is best known for his work on "Conan the Barbarian," "The Men who Stare at Goats" and "Gettysburg." He was also seen in "Pawn," "The Girl on the Train" and "Pioneer."
Cameron is best known for his work on "Titanic," "Aliens" and "True Lies." He will direct the next three installments of "Avatar"
The first sequel is set to hit theaters in December 2016. The following films will be released in December 2017 and in 2018.
