Grand Theft Auto 5 is notorious for its massive open world environment, and developer Rockstar filled the virtual realm with a variety of secrets and easter eggs for players to find. Here are some of the better easter eggs hiding in Grand Theft Auto 5.
Many of the game's different easter eggs can be found in one place: Lester's house. In the character's house players can spot various references to many different television and pop culture icons, including "The X-Files," Halo, several different anime titles, and even Bigfoot (who shows up in the game on occasion).
A cool mystery players can check out involves the Mystery 8 Killer. Throughout Los Santos there is graffiti left by a mysterious killer that follows a sing-song pattern like the "Nightmare Before Elm Street" song. The messages provide clues about where to go next, and hint at more murders. If players follow the clues, they can find where the killer left all his victims' bodies.
One fun easter egg is an inside joke for Grand Theft Auto 4 fans. Occasionally when switching to Trevor, players will find him riding a scooter chasing after fellow scooter riders yelling "Scooter Brothers!" at them, among other nonsense. This is a reference to this Youtube video of a player doing the same thing.
There's also a special esater egg hidden in the game for "Thelma & Louise" fans. At around 7 p.m. in-game time by the helipad, players can find a scene of two old ladies surrounded by the cops reenacting the ending of the movie by driving off a cliff.
Playboy fans might recognize one building in the hills surrounding Los Santos: a recreation of the infamous Playboy Mansion. Players can explore the mansion and even check out a recreation of the Grotto area, which, of course, features several topless women.
Finally, one of the earliest and most interesting easter eggs can be found in the prologue of the game. During the earliest mission of the game, a frozen alien can be found if players know where to look. The alien is hidden underneath a bridge, and users can spot the creature as they flee from the police. This easter egg hints at all the various UFO activities players can encounter over the course of the game.
