Marseille will look to salvage its Champions League campaign when it takes on Napoli on Tuesday.
In 2011-12, Marseille managed a shocking berth in the knockout rounds after eliminating Borussia Dortmund. The situations have changed drastically since then as the team sits in last place in the group with zero points in its first two games. The French club lost 2-1 against Arsenal in its opener before being taken down 3-0 in Dortmund.
A loss against Napoli would essentially put the team's fate out of its own control as it would then need to win three straight and hope for favorable results elsewhere to have any chance of a knockout round appearance. Despite the odds, one Marseille star is confident in his team's chances.
"It is a very difficult group, but it's not impossible either. We beat Dortmund in the last game [of the 2011/12 group stage] which allowed us to qualify, along with Arsenal," Mathieu Valbuena told UEFA.com. "We know these teams very well, especially Arsenal because a lot of French players play there and they have a French coach. The unknown team are Napoli but looking at their recruitment and investment, they're a big team."
Napoli sits in second place in the group after a poor performance against Arsenal earlier this month. The team has a chance to jump back into first place if Arsenal loses at home against Dortmund.
Prediction: Napoli is held to a 1-1 draw in Marseille.
