On last Sunday's episode of procedural drama "The Mentalist," Rigsby and Van Pelt finally tied the knot while another bride saw red. Now fans are wondering: what will happen to the couple now that they've gotten hitched? It's been known for some time that Amanda Righetti and Owain Yeoman will be exiting the show, which coincides with Red John's identity being revealed. Will something happen to Rigsby or Van Pelt when the killer's identity surfaces?
Executive producer Daniel Cerone was tight-lipped about any details to TVLine. "I've got to be honest with you - in terms of their future and their life on the show, or their place on the show or place not on the show, I can honestly say nothing has been decided," Cerone said. "That's something that we're still exploring creatively."
As for this Sunday's episode, TVLine confirmed that the hunt for Red John will progress in some interesting ways. The episode will involve a nail-biting standoff between Homeland's Bob Kirkland and FBI agent Reede Smith. The episode will also reveal that two people from Jane's (Simon Baker) past have recently died. "Tiger, tiger" will also be uttered a number of times.
Next Sunday, Homeland Security agent Robert Kirkland will be the main focus of Jane and Lisbon (Robin Tunney). The synopsis for the next episode, "Red Listed," reads: "Jane reveals that a list of fake Red John suspects he planted was stolen, and the team realizes these men are in danger."
TVGuide also confirms that the plot between Bertram, McCallister and Smith will go beyond the Red John case. "The CBI goes through its own sort of institutional crisis," series creator Bruno Heller teased. "The walls are crumbling around them as they are trying to solve this big final mystery. Bertram is both a prime suspect as Red John, but also deeply involved in that other plot." He also said that new cast members Emily Swallow and Rockmond Dunbar will figure into that storyline, which will be the main focus after Red John is caught.
After Red John is caught, the dynamic of the show will definitely shift, as Red John has been the crucial storyline for six seasons. Episode nine of this season is called "My Blue Heaven." The lack of the word "red" in the title suggests that Red John may be caught by then, TVLine reports. Episode 10 is also devoid of "red." Episode 10's title is "Green Thumb," in which a new tech analyst named Jason is introduced.
