Doris Hoffman will represent Austria in the 2013 Miss Universe.
Born in 1990, the Steyr native is the first model to represent the country since 2004. Hoffman became the official representative after becoming the first runner-up in the Miss Austria 2013 competition. She also won the Miss Oberosterreich competition in 2013, which made her eligible for Miss Universe.
During her free-time Hoffman enjoys cooking and eating wiener schnitzel. She has also played the piano for eight years and once worked on a BMW assembly line.
Hoffman was never interested in being a model, but decided to apply for the Miss Austria contest because she wanted to have fun and experience something new. Having already gone through the pageant, Hoffman hopes to learn a lot from her the Miss Universe experience.
Austria competed at the paegent between 1953 and 1957. The country then participated from 1959-1990 before being absent from the contest for two years. The nation returned from 1992-1993 but did not compete again until 1999 and 2004. The country has never won the crown, but in 1977 Eva Maria Duringer obtained the first runner-up position.
Hoffman may not be one of the favorites this upcoming year, but her country has a chance at placing in the top five this year.
