Actor Robert Downey Jr. was hurt during the latest film production of Ironman on Thursday.
The 47-year-old actor is acting for the third installment of the Ironman series, playing billionaire playboy-turned-superhero Tony Stark, who is also featured in The Avengers.
At the time of the incident, production was filming scenes in Wilmington, North Carolina.
"Robert Downey Jr. sustained an ankle injury on the set of Iron Man 3 in Wilmington, N.C., while performing a stunt," the studio said. "There will be a short delay in the production schedule while he recuperates."
Although the premise of the third Ironman flick is unknown, what is confirmed is Downey reuniting with Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, John Favreau, and Ben Kinglsey portraying the villain The Mandarin. The addition of the Mandarin as speculated rumors the premise may involve China, according to Gossip Center.
The Ironman series is considered to be a surprise hit since it premiered in 2008, earning $585 million in revenue worldwide. The sequel earned $623 million worldwide upon its 2010 premiere.
Ironman 3 is expected to be in theatres on May 3, 2013, while Marvel announced Downey to appear in the next Avengers sequel, set for May 1, 2015. The Avengers opened to the biggest box office premiere in US history, grossing $1.5 billion globally.
