Viewers were taken to the psychedelic world of Wonderland on the season premiere of ABC's "Once Upon a Time in Wonderland."
The "Once Upon a Time" spinoff focuses on Alice (Sophie Lowe), a girl living in Victorian England who visits the magical world of Wonderland at a young age. After many visits to the fantasy land, her dad, who is convinced that her "trips" to Wonderland signal a form of psychosis, locks her up in an insane asylum. Alice is almost ready to give in to the doctors' memory-wiping treatment because she is heartbroken by the death of her love, Wonderland's genie, Cyrus (Peter Gadiot), at the hands of the Red Queen (Emma Rigby).
The Knave of Hearts (Michael Socha) then breaks into the asylum in the nick of time to tell Alice that Cyrus was spotted by the White Rabbit (voiced by John Lithgow).
Through a portal provided by the Rabbit, Alice and the Knave jump back into Wonderland. The Rabbit says that a door mouse said he saw Cyrus as the Mad Hatter's house. The Knave is reluctant to stay in Wonderland and help Alice because he's a wanted man, but Alice tells him that in exchange for his help, she will pay him in wishes. Along the way, the Knave rescues Alice from a hungry Cheshire Cat (voiced by Keith David).
The traitorous Rabbit meets with the Red Queen to tell her of Alice's whereabouts. Jafar (Naveen Andrews) is another foe that is introduced. Yet, the treacherous duo can't accomplish what they want until they have the genie's bottle and Alice has made her wishes. Although they are working together, Jafar almost chokes the Red Queen before they strike a deal to work together. Jafar needs the Queen's help because this is her world, and only she knows where Alice can be found.
Later, Alice and the Knave don't find Cyrus at his house, but Alice does find his necklace, which proves to her that he is alive. Although they are not aware of it yet, viewers see that Cyrus is being held prisoner by the evil Jafar.
On the next episode, "Trust Me," the search for Cyrus will continue. The synopsis reads, "Alice concocts a plan to find Cyrus and uses his genie bottle as bait to find out who she's up against and who her real friends are. Meanwhile, the Red Queen and Jafar face off, and in a flashback, viewers find out how Alice and Cyrus fell in love and how Cyrus ends up in Wonderland. "
TVLine reports that on the October 24 episode, a character from the "Once Upon a Time" world will appear in Wonderland. Flashbacks will reveal that one of Alice's friends used to be Will Scarlet, a member of Robin Hood's Merry Men. Robin Hood, played by Sean Maguire, will appear in the episode. The episode will reveal that Will convinces the group to steal gold from Maleficent's castle, but he then takes an enchanted mirror for himself.
