The CW is about to delve into one of the juiciest, most dramatic types of intrigue: royal intrigue.
The CW is following in the footsteps of "The Tudors" and "The White Queen" with the upcoming period drama "Reign," which focuses on the plotting and dalliances surrounding Mary, Queen of Scots.
TVLine released a sneak preview of a scene from the show, in which Queen Catherine, played by "Anne of Green Gables'" Megan Follows, is not happy that teenage queen Mary, played by Adelaide Kane, has arrived to wed her child, Prince Francis of France (Toby Regbo).
"Mary is a danger to my son's well-being," Follows says in a exclusive, behind-the-scenes interview. She later added, "I'm sure many mothers can relate to this situation."
According to IMDB, "Reign" chronicles Mary Queen of Scots' rise to power when she arrived in France as a 15-year-old, engaged to marry Prince Francis. The show focuses on her impending marriage and her three ladies-in-waiting, who are also her best friends. It details the history of the tumultuous French Court, namely how to survive amidst enemies and sexual intrigue.
Additional scripts were ordered for "Reign," signaling the network's support for the show, The Hollywood Reporter confirms. Additional scripts were also ordered for The CW's "Vampire Diaries" spinoff "The Originals," as well as for "The Tomorrow People."
The star of the show, Adelaide Kane, is a 23-year-old actress who hails from Claremont, Western Australia. Kane appeared in the Australian show "Neighbours," and was later cast as Cora in MTV's "Teen Wolf." Her co-star, Toby Regbo, is a 21-year-old British actor who appeared in the play "Tusk Tusk" in London's West End, and played young Albus Dumbledore in the film "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows- Part 1."
"Reign" premieres on Thursday, October 17 at 9 p.m.
