Samsung will finally show us what the Galaxy Note 2 is all about at an event on August 29 before the IFA consumer electronics show starts in Berlin. Until now, most of what we know about the Galaxy Note 2 is thanks to insider sources. A few leaked photographs have people saying that it looks very much like the Galaxy S3 smartphone Samsung released earlier this summer. But make no mistake, the Galaxy Note 2 is not the Galaxy S3, and aims to provide a much different experience.
The biggest difference will be the size of the Galaxy Note 2. At the rumored size of 5.5-inches, it will not only be bigger than the original 5.3-inch Galaxy Note, but it will be bigger than any smartphone to date. It's too big to be classified a proper phone, and too small to be a tablet, so the Galaxy Note has its own market niche: the "phablet."
The Galaxy Note 2 will also feature a stylus, the S pen, just like the Galaxy Note did. Thanks to the larger screen size, it's easier to use a stylus with the phablet. Samsung has also done a good job with optimizing the S pen use for its devices with apps and a streamlined interface. Reception to the stylus has been good, and this feature alone will make using the Galaxy Note 2 a completely different experience than the Galaxy S3.
Yes, both the Galaxy Note 2 and the Galaxy S3 will run the latest version of Android at some point. Yes, both can do almost the same things because their tech specs are good (although the Galaxy Note 2 might come with an incredible 13-megapixel camera compared to the S3's eight-megapixel camera). And if the leaked images are true, then yes, the Galaxy Note 2 might share design elements with the Galaxy S3. But even with all these taken into account, the Galaxy Note 2 will deliver a different user experience, and if the original Galaxy Note's sales are noted, then the Galaxy Note 2 has its own market, away from the Galaxy S3, waiting for it.
