On the latest episode of "The Good Wife," Alicia gained a friend, Peter gained more campaign money and Kalinda and Nick continued their incredibly dysfunctional relationship.
On last Sunday's episode, Will (Josh Charles) dealt with a case that involved the wrongful death of a protestor. The case starts out promisingly, but the team is set back by new rules and a distracted Kalinda (Archie Panjabi). Yet, Will is able to regain an upper hand by proving that the victim was targeted as a "problem protestor" and was subject to excessive force by police. The case is settled for $3.5 million.
Meanwhile, Alicia (Julianna Margulies) helps Hayden (Nathan Lane) whittle down the firm's employees. She is also tasked with presenting the firm's proposal for rent relief to their new landlord, business tycoon Maddie Hayward (Maura Tierney). Maddie is interested in Alicia's personal story, and opts to contribute to the Florrick campaign. Maddie also asks Alicia out of a drink, but in a girl's night way, not a romantic way, as Alicia initially thought.
The episode also included some sexual tension-filled Nick (Marc Warren) and Kalinda scenes. The two discuss their complicated relationship over ice cream in a scene that becomes increasingly lascivious. Later, when Kalinda enters her home, she finds Nick waiting in a chair, waving a gun. She ignores him, so he punches a mirror. "Why do you hurt me?" he asks her. "I love you. I always will," he added. The two then end up in bed together, further confusing their convoluted relationship.
The episode also featured Alicia, Cary (Matt Czuchry) and the other Carey (Ben Rappaport) uncovering a valuable piece of intelligence about Lockhart/Gardner when they defend Neil Gross and Chumhum against the National Security Agency in federal Court. "You come to realize that the NSA is actually listening in on Lockhart/Gardner calls," Rappaport told TVGuide.
Rappaport, whose character is new to the show, shared with TVGuide that his role on "The Good Wife" is a great learning experience after his first role on NBC's short-lived comedy "Outsourced."
"When I first started out, I didn't expect for comedy to be my first big break. I always saw myself as more of a dramatic actor," he said. "It's my first long stint on a TV drama, so I kind of look at this as a bit of a training ground for how to do procedural drama well."
Rappaport revealed that the best drama of the season is yet to come. "As things begin to unravel throughout the season, and they start the new firm, it's really quite explosive," Rappaport said. "They say its kind of a new energy for the show that people might not be expecting."
The exit from Lockhart/Gardner will help Alicia and Carey bond. "Alicia eventually comes to warm up to Carey Zepps," Rappaport explained. "With the impending craziness in the next few episodes, that will bring them a little bit closer together."
Julianna Margulies also told TVGuide that although her exit will cause a rift with her colleagues, she will not lose her friendship with Diane (Christine Baranski). "Around Episode 15, you're going to see something crazy happen and you'll see an incredible bond that happens [from being] thrown into a situation between Alicia and Diane," she shared. "It's really important to see two strong women who like each other and fight for each other and have each other's backs."
The synopsis for the next episode, "A Precious Commodity," is as follows: "Alicia is tempted to stay with the firm after Will makes her a stunning offer. Meanwhile, Diane's Supreme Court candidacy puts her at odds with her colleagues."
"There will be a lot of in-fighting [at LG] about whether she [Diane] has made her decision," series cocreator Robert King told TVLine about the upcoming episode. "The whole question raised last year is now taken to fruition - where does Diane's heart lie? Because you can't be running a firm and have your heart be somewhere else."
