Sorry HTC One X owners, the news about firmware updates just doesn't get any better. Not only will the HTC One X probably not see Android 4.3 Jelly Bean in 2013, it now looks like the handset might not get Sense 5.5.

A well-known HTC developer and insider named LlabTooFeR dropped the news recently when responding to a fellow Twitter user's question.

All in all, it's not too surprising, given that the HTC One X is as fragmented as it is, with some models just receiving Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and Sense 5. One X users can still experience features like BlinkFeed and Video highlights in Sense 5, they just won't have access to whatever HTC throws in for Sense 5.5.

It's not clear what Sense 5.5 contains or when it will release, although early stirrings indicate HTC will roll out Sense 5.5 alongside Android 4.3 Jelly Bean for certain regions around such as Europe and Asia in November or December.

An earlier tip from LlabTooFeR revealed that the HTC One X was liable to not receive Android 4.3 in 2013. Many had initially thought HTC would update the handset, but as time as passed, the Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer's intentions have only become murkier.

It's unlikely that HTC has completely stopped its update plans for the HTC One X, but there's a good chance the One X won't be on pace with similar rival handsets like the Samsung Galaxy S3. HTC's recent quarter turned out to be incredibly disappointing, so look for the company to step up its services before it loses too much market share.
