"We are very excited to introduce Surface 2. As these products entered the world, we found so many new interesting insights that we took and then used it to develop the second-generation of Surface," says Surface Creative Director Ralf Groene.

Stevie Bathiche, a distinguished scientist for the Surface team, states everything in the Surface was "touched" to make it better for Surface 2. For Bathiche, one notable feature in the Surface 2 is the evolution of the Touch Cover.

Corporate Vice President Panos Panoy adds that the Touch Cover for the Surface 2 will have a motion sensor for better gesture on the keyboard.

"I am so proud of what we have today," says Bathiche. "We built the best device I believe that's out there and the best device that we could."

The Surface 2's features include a 10.6-inch ClearType HD screen with 1,920x1,080 resolution. The tablet will be available with Windows RT 8.1 operating system and only 32GB and 64GB internal storage models. When it comes to camera specifications, the Surface 2 sports a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera while the front variant has 3.5 megapixels. The Surface Pro 2's CPU utilizes the fourth-generation Intel Core i5-4200U with 1.6 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost up to 2.6 GHz.

As seen on the online Microsoft Store, the Surface 2's 32GB model, priced at $449, is expected to ship by Oct. 21. The 64GB of the Surface 2, however, is expected to ship on Oct. 25 with a price tag of $549.

The new Surface tablet has been available for pre-orders since Sept. 24 and will be released across 22 markets including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom and United States. Meanwhile, China will get to see the tablets by early November.
