The country drama is back and better than ever on ABC's primetime soap "Nashville."
In last week's episode, "Never No More," Rayna (Connie Britton) is home after a four week stay in the hospital and is already delving back into work. She is excited about bringing both Will (Chris Carmack) and Scarlett (Clare Bowen) onto her Highway 65 Label. However, Jeff (Oliver Hudson), the new smarmy boss of Edgehill Records, has other plans for Will: he wants Will to jump ship and join the team over at Edgehill.
Rayna also gives her old engagement ring back to Deacon (Chip Esten), and tells Teddy (Eric Close) that he has to move out, confirming that the divorce is moving ahead. Deacon, who is now living with his niece, Scarlett, sells off almost all of his guitars and is ready to give up music due to his busted hand. Yet, Deacon saws off his cast and tries to play, meaning there may be some hope yet for Deacon's music career.
In a self-serving move, Juliette tries to replicate the success Rayna got due to her accident and tapes a special about her difficult upbringing in Alabama. Although Juliette does it for mercenary reasons, visiting her old trailer park stirs up real emotions. (And her plan works: her single soars to No. 1 on iTunes.) Juliette also has to contend with Layla, a 19-year-old singer who came in second on a singing reality show who recently signed with Edgehill. The new boss says that Layla is popular with the tween set, and he's right- her single bumps Juliette's song from No. 1, much to Julie's indignation.
The next episode, "I Don't Wanna Talk About It Now," will focus on Rayna and Teddy parting ways as their divorce becomes final. Peggy will also try to win Teddy back, Juliette takes a gig singing at an anniversary party for a billionaire couple, and Deacon's past complicates his relationship with his biological daughter, Maddie.
Meanwhile, Juliette will continue to feel threatened by the new up-and-coming pop star and Rayna will face some distressing vocal issues.
The next episode airs on Wednesday at 10 p.m. on ABC.
