This past weekend Latino films dominated the box office.

The No. 1 film of the weekend was "Gravity," which was directed by Mexican filmmaker Alfonso Cuaron and written with his son Jonas Cuaron. The movie took in $55.5 million with an average of $15,500 per theater.

The film also broke the October record for highest-grossing opening. The movie was also the highest-grossing opening for its stars Sandra Bullock and Geogre Clooney. "Gravity" is also one of the best reviewed films of the year and obtained a 98 percent aggregate score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Also doing solid business was Jaime Camil's "Pulling Strings." The Mexican film surprised by making the top 10 and scored $2.5 million in three days. It was the second consecutive hit for the distribution company Pantelion and Lionsgate. "Pulling Strings" also stars Laura Ramsey and Omar Chaparro.

At No. 11 "Instructions Not Included" continued to break records. The film made $1.8 million bringing its total gross to $41 million. The movie became the fourth highest grossing foreign language film of all time.

"Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2" continued to do solid business by making $21 million bringing its total to $60 million. However, prestige films' "Prisoners" and "Rush" continued to struggle at the box office.
