The ninth season of “Bones” is now well underway. As fans look ahead, an early peek at next Monday’s episode hints at a run-in with a Mexican gang and a sensitive Sweets, who’s still upset with the role he played in Pelant’s latest crimes. He requests a leave of absence to clear his head, however his colleagues are hesitant to let him go, especially Booth.

“[Sweets] is at a crossroads and he feels like he wants to do something more with his life than what he’s [currently] doing,” says David Boreanaz, who plays Booth, in a promotional video that includes footage of Sweets’ heartfelt departure. Check it out here.

An additional promo proves that it’s going to be a very Sweets oriented episode. Apart from his farewell, the episode also sheds light on what he’s been doing to help children avoid a life of crime and why he so badly needs a break. While his hiatus is much deserved and necessary, whether or not he’ll return anytime soon remains unclear. Check out the promo for episode 3, titled “El Carnicero en el Coche,” and read the official Fox synopsis below.

“The Jeffersonian team investigates the murder of Jamie Delcampo, a member of the Estrellas Locas gang, whose remains were found in a burnt out car. Meanwhile, having taken time off from the FBI in the wake of Pelant’s latest assault on the team, Sweets ultimately decides to help with the investigation when he discovers that a young boy from the center where he volunteers is the son of one of the gang members.”

“Bones” airs Monday nights on Fox.
