"Rookie Blue" ended its fourth season with a dramatic two-part finale. On the finale, Sam (Ben Bass) got shot, which drove Andy (Missy Peregrym) to run to his side and spill her heart out. Yet, executive producer Tassie Cameron told TVLine that that doesn't exactly mean Andy and Nick (Peter Mooney) are finished.

Cameron revealed that, as expected, Sam will not die from his gunshot wound. As for Andy's confession to Sam in the ambulance, she "acted on her intuition," but that doesn't mean she definitively chose Sam over Nick. But, "there's a lot of unfinished business with that relationship [with Sam]," Cameron said.

Nick wants what is best for Andy, even if it means losing her. "He wants her to do what's right for her, because he's a good person," Cameron said. His selflessness could make Andy's decision all the more difficult. Therefore, the love triangle is not exactly finished and may continue on to next season.

While many fans are on team Sam, there just as many on team Nick who are charmed by his kindness. It seems like the writers on the show are just as divided.

"It's not just the audience," Cameron said. "The writing room is divided. Half of us are passionate Sam-and-Andy lovers, half of us loved Nick and Andy. It's quite interesting, and we really did set ourselves the goal this season of trying to build a viable, interesting alternative to the Sam-and-Andy relationship... We were exploring, as writers, whether it's true: Can you have loved somebody like Sam and then fall in love with a different kind of person? Is that possible? If so, what does it look like?"

One of the qualities Andy likes about Nick is his openness, whereas Sam hides a lot under the surface. Next season, the importance of openness between Andy and Sam will be explored. "While the secret and mysterious love affair is a very, very passionate one, and a very sexy one, it has to go to the next level. She learns that from her situation with Nick. If anything with Sam is going to work, they're going to have to get a little more open and a little more honest with each other," Cameron explained.

But the finale didn't just focus on the Andy/Sam/Nick conundrum. Gail (Charlotte Sullivan) introduced Holly (Aliyah O'Brien) to Chris (Travis Milne) and her brother. Cameron said that the introduction was Gail's subtle way of coming out. Yet, Gail still has a lot ahead of her in terms of her family and friends accepting her for who she is.

Another shocker was when Chloe's (Priscilla Faia) husband showed up, revealing the two never got divorced. "What interested us about that was that we always knew from the beginning with Chloe that she was going to present herself as an open book, but she was going to have something really, really big under the surface that she hasn't told Dov," Cameron said.

As for Marlo (Rachael Ancheril), Camerson said that her professional future is not looking too bright.

"We have really, really loved that character," she said. "That character grew on us. And [Rachael Ancheril] is incredible and lovely. That moment at the end when she cries at the lockers is one of my favorite moments of the episode, for sure. But it would be very hard to imagine her having a regular police job after this."

"Rookie Blue's fifth season is slated to return on May 9, 2014 on ABC.
