LeBron James continued his NBA MVP ways with seven assists, four rebounds, and 19 points during the gold medal final, two points ahead of Lakers' Kobe Bryant who stated he will not return to the Olympics in 2016.
"This is it for me," said Bryant. "The Other guys are good to go."
"We knew it wasn't going to be easy. We didn't want it easy," said James to reporters. "A lot of teams have won gold easy. We didn't want it that way."
According to James, the 2012 Olympic team was a competitive team that showed their will and determination during their games.
For Coach Mike Krzyzewski, he stated he'll be retiring as coach. Krzyzewski's led the team to their second consecutive gold matching former coach Hank Iba's feat.
The close game at one point saw Spain losing by one point entering the fourth quarter. If Spain had to choose a MVP, undoubtedly the choice is fellow Los Angeles Lakers' Pau Gasol who scored the third highest points during the Olympics with 153.
"I am disappointed, but on the other side I'm very proud how of the way we competed, how we played," said Gasol. "We fought for 40 minutes. I am proud of having another Olympic medal around my neck."
The silver medalist added, "It's disappointing because I thought we had our chance. We were right there pretty much the entire game. We let them get away in the fourth and we couldn't get back."
"We came through from the beginning of July and worked hard for one goal and I'm glad I accomplished it," said Durant.
The win for Team USA marked their overall 14th gold medal.
