While the storm rages on outside the walls of Grey Sloan Memorial, a different kind of storm rages on inside.
In a new preview clip for Thursday's two-hour premiere of "Grey's Anatomy," Owen (Kevin McKidd) reports that the ER is lacking supplies as more storm victims are rushed into the hospital, and that the ER may have to close.
Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) said that she could use her board powers to try to communicate with her suppliers to garner more supplies.
While this is happening, Callie (Sara Ramirez) is giving her wife Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) a serious death glare after finding out about her cheating ways. When someone mentions the name of the other woman, Callie can't help but blurt out what happened, leaving everyone aghast.
TVLine reports that the synopsis for the premiere includes the description, "Callie makes a bold decision regarding her relationship." Will Callie and Arizona call it quits?
While no one knows the fate of Callie/Arizona yet, the life-or-death fate of two other lives hangs dangerously in the balance.
In the season premiere, after Bailey (Chandra Wilson) asks Shane (Gaius Charles) to help her find Dr. Webber (James Pickens Jr.), Shane lies to Heather that she was the one tasked with seeking out Webber's whereabouts. Heather then goes down the flooded basement, where she finds Webber lying on the ground unconscious. Without thinking, Heather goes in to help Webber, and ends up getting electrocuted.
A short sneak preview for the opener showed Dr. Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) announcing someone's time of death. Could it be Heather? Or is it Webber, who was electrocuted during last season's finale? Fans can only speculate until the premiere.
Although there are not many lighthearted moments in the opener, one small glimmer of happiness is when Meredith and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) are shown with their new baby, Bailey.
One "Grey's Anatomy" character will also have more than just the storm to contend with next season. Alex's (Justin Chambers) estranged dad will be paying him a visit in the upcoming season, who will be played by "Dexter" actor James Remar.
James Remar shared an inside scoop with TVGuide about his "Grey's" character. "He's not a guy who's been living a very wholesome life," Remar said. "He's a drug addict and really on the skids. Their reunion is charged and difficult."
Remar will be introduced as Alex's father for a brief arc early on in season 10.
